In Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too, a little girl learns from her mother that every person in the world is her neighbor and wonders—as so many of us have—“How can I love that many people?” Going about her day, she begins to notice how others show care and kindness—a construction worker helping his coworker, children sharing toys at the park, strangers trying to support refugees, neighbors giving freshly baked bread, a boy catching an old man’s runaway dog—which gives her confidence that she can love her neighbor, too, “Whether they live next door, or across the street, or far, far away.”

For our self-absorbed and fractured culture, this never-preachy holds an especially timely message. Jennifer Grant’s simple yet thoughtful language, combined with Benjamin Schipper’s happy, beautifully diverse illustrations, make this delightful and inspiring picture book a wonderful and important addition to every library.
