Love Is: A Yearlong Experiment of Living Out 1 Corinthians 13 Love by Kim Sorrelle

Kim Sorrelle thought it would be fairly easy to live out the ā€œlove isā€ descriptions in 1 Corinthians 13 over the course of a year. She knew all about what is often called the ā€œlove chapter;ā€ she knew a lot about love herself, having seen it in action in her marriage, with her children, and through her work with a nonprofit in Haiti and other countries.

ā€œIt is quite a list, a list that I think I already know, but somehow I think I have a lot to learn,ā€ she writes in the introduction. As youā€™ll discover, she did have a lot to learn, and weā€™ll learn with her as she works her way through the list that begins with ā€œlove is patientā€ and ends with ā€œlove always perseveres.ā€

Sorrelle takes readers on as she takes us to Haiti, a place she loves and has visited and worked in many times. Most of us would have gone off the deep end if weā€™d experienced the maddening, exasperating, and sometimes dangerous experiences she faced. Yet she came through them more like Jesus and with a better understanding of what Jesusā€™ love means in the real world. Hers are not abstract examples, but stories taken from her life as an American woman in a third-world country and as an entrepreneur in what is often a manā€™s world in the U.S. and abroad.

Readers will come away challenged, amused, and delighted at Sorrelleā€™s journey and her unique voice as she digs deep into 1 Corinthians 13, a chapter in the Bible that reveals Godā€™s heart and offers us a roadmap for living out Godā€™s love. Once you close the book, youā€™ll want to begin your own journey through 1 Corinthians 13. (Kregel)
