Christian band NEEDTOBREATHE’s music makes one want to listen over and over again because, frankly, it’s good—really good. Lead singer Bear Rinehard and the band’s latest work, Into the Mystery, scores big. The lyrics are heartfelt, honest, and artfully Christian, but you know the person they are singing about. The music’s pure gold: solid ballads, rock ’n’ roll, and a splash of bluegrass. “I Am Yours” talks about human relationship with God and features some powerful driving guitars. “West Texas Wind” describes the struggle between human and spiritual life and says, “This house is not our only home; You can’t protect love with stone; God, I know you can hear me; So please come near me; I’m ready to let the world go.” Special guests add to the album’s flavor. Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and country stars Carrie Underwood and Natalie Hemby are included in those. And of course, Rinehart’s voice is so distinctive you know from the start you are listening to a NEEDTOBREATHE song. This band and album will appeal to the Christian or secular worlds alike.
