In the winter of 2019, a number of women who lead worship in various capacities got together to write and share songs and stories of faith. They released their debut album under the name Faithful. Last year they assembled again and have created an album that speaks to our place in the family of God and gives a message of hope. The album, Daybreak: Psalms of Action, is a delightful and encouraging recording.
While the subtitle is Psalms of Action, it could very well have been called Songs of Belonging as that is a theme that runs through many of the 10 songs from āTrue Belongingā and āA Place for Youā to the finale, āTo Dwell as One.ā While other topics emerge, as in āSearch My Heart,ā the emphasis falls on the final line from Psalm 139: āLead me in the way everlasting.ā Similarly, in āGod is On Your Side,ā when they sing, āWhere is God when the world is broken, when it feels like the night has won?ā they respond with āO, friend, put your hope in him. God is on your side.ā
The music throughout Daybreak is uplifting, featuring light musical arrangements that invite reflection and donāt overpower the vocals. As it says in the albumās title, these songs are based on Psalms and reflect the Psalmsā honesty and continual turning back to God, even in lament. Daybreak is an album that will be a good companion on days when we need a reminder that God is with us and that we have a place with his people.
