Heidi Hager, age 7, demonstrated that children can make an impact on helping the needy.
After reading in her Clubhouse Jr. magazine about āTanks-a-Lot,ā a program to collect tank tops for orphans in Uganda, Heidi purchased some of the shirts with her piggy bank money, supplemented by earnings from doing chores.
She set a goal of collecting 50 tops, and after canvassing stores she put an announcement in her churchās newsletter. She also recruited friends from Sunday school at Manhattan (Mont.) Christian Reformed Church.
Her younger brother Cody helped her decorate collection boxes, which were placed in the back of the church and at two stores.
The church box overflowed, and Heidiās collection numbered 96. So close to 100, she worked hard to earn enough for four more.
This wasnāt Heidiās first compassionate project. Her mother, Julie, said, āGod just gave her a heart for helping people.ā
