Two West Michigan Christian high schools captured state championships this spring. The girls’ track team at South Christian High School, Cutlerville, hooked its first Michigan championship, and the girls’ soccer team at Unity Christian High School, Hudsonville, won its second consecutive state title.

The South Christian Sailors beat out nine other Division II teams. Freshman Kelsey Burgess enjoyed running track. “It’s fun to run competitively,” she said. “When you run, you think abut doing your best. You’re using your abilities from God.”

The Unity team scored a 1-0 victory to capture the Division III soccer title, despite graduating half its championship team last year. Even after winning two years in a row, Coach Randy Heethuis said, “The girls were extremely humble. Coaches and officials comment that they play in the spirit of true sportsmanship. It doesn’t take long for other people who watch to see that there’s something different about these girls.”
